Screening rates for colon cancer are very low compared to breast cancer screening rates, yet colon cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer and 90% of colon cancers are preventable.A Board Certified gastroenterologist will present an understanding of how screening can save lives by discovering colon cancer early when the chance of cure is good, and why waiting until symptoms develop results in the cancer being more advanced by the time it is diagnosed, and therefore less curable. Seminar participants will learn that the secret to preventing colon cancer is knowing risk factors and when to begin screening.
Information about colon cancer risk factors and the advantages and disadvantages of various screening tests will be presented. Seminar participants will be given access to a free on-line survey that helps determine risk and tells when to begin colon cancer screening.
